Dr. Mohd Tajuddin Abdullah

Areas of expertise

Wildlife and protected area management; Borneo biodiversity conservation; bat molecular ecology

Biography

Between 1994 to 2006, I have been involved in teaching and research on the wildlife ecology, management and conservation of biodiversity in Malaysia; publication, consultation and community services. I have taught 15 different courses for the undergraduates as well as postgraduate students at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. I have supervised both the undergraduates’ final year research projects and MSc students by research.

Previously, from 1977 to 1993, I was leading a unit on research and management of endangered species at the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, Kuala Lumpur and was a director of Zoo Melaka in Malaysia.

In my field of expertise, I have contributed on the local knowledge in wildlife resource management and conservation that is being recognized by the Malaysian wildlife authorities. Internationally, my expertise is recognized by being an invited member of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), Species Survival Commission (SSC) and the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA).

Currently, I am interested to combine knowledge on the species ecology, morphometric and molecular genetics to increase our understanding on the rich biodiversity in Malaysia. My plan is to undertake a collaborative field research in Southeast Asian region for detailed study on the wildlife and Wallace’s Line biogeography using both classical and DNA tools.
