A professor of educational psychology for 33 years in the Faculty of Education, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada, I specialize in the areas of 1) developmental psychology and 2) teacher education. My earlier research (approximately 1974-1985) concerned gender roles in early childhood education, especially of teachers. Later my research shifted to focusing on informal (or “lay”) theories about children’s learning and development. My most research concerns innovative ways of teaching educational psychology to preservice teachers. Until recently, I was also the author of 3 university textbooks: “Child and Adolescent Development,” “Lifespan Development,” “Educational Psychology,” and “Constructing a Psychology of Teaching and Learning.” All of these were published by Houghton Mifflin Company.
