My name is Michael Ballen and I am currently an Instructional Technology Resource Specialist at Santa Clara University, in Santa Clara, California. I have a B.A. in Photography and Film Production from Ohio State University, and a M.Ed in Education (emphasis in Instructional Technology) from Western Washington University, in Bellingham, WA. My job at SCU is to help our faculty integrate technology into their curriculum. I do this via one-on-one consultations, a series of short workshops, and an intensive two-week summer workshop. Topics I teach are: ANGEL (our Course Management System), acquiring and editing images, digital storytelling with iMovie, web-based instruction, podcasting, and immersive learning environments (Second Life). Each workshop consists of sound pedagogical reasons for using the technology, and step-by-step instructions on how to use the technology.
