Leo Keohane is doing doctoral research on the philosophy of anti-hegemonic activities, in particular anarchism at the [www.nuigalway.ie/cis/research.html Centre for Irish Studies], NUI Galway. He has a Masters in the study of postcolonialism and is antique enough to be still enthralled with literary theory, although not for one moment imagining that it could ever explain why a piece of literature is any good.

He sees anarchism as expressive of an alternative weltanschauung which is outside the conventional political philosophies. For example, Marx presents an alternative to capitalism generally, which, for all his genius, is in effect only a regulation of the existing system - all his critiques can only be within the Foucauldian episteme. Anarchism is an attempt to posit possibilities beyond this strata of knowledge.

Relating anarchism to Ireland his area of speciality is early twentieth century social upheaval and specifically Captain Jack White DSO, an activist, a pacifist and an anarchist of some philosophical ability, who will form a considerable case study in his thesis.
