I am an archaeologist in the Department of Anthropology at Florida Atlantic University. I specialize in the archaeology of Mesoamerica, particularly the Maya area of Mexico and Central America. I have worked in the states of Chiapas, Veracruz, Quintana Roo, and Yucatan in Mexico, and at Copán, Honduras. I have also worked in the southeast United States, in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. I have worked at the site of Mayapán, Yucatán, Mexico, on and off, for many years.

My scholarly interests include the analysis of settlement pattern, the analysis of ancient ceramic and lithic artifacts, Maya ethnohistory, and the application of quantitative methods in archaeology.

I hold a B.A. in archaeology (cum laude) from Yale University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in anthropology from Tulane University. My doctoral dissertation was entitled Mayapán Society and Ancient Maya Social Organization. It was based upon my excavations in the residential zones of the Postclassic Maya capital of Mayapán, in the state of Yucatán, México.
