Dr. John Helly is a scientist at the San Diego Supercomputer Center at the University of California, San Diego where he is the Director of the Laboratory for Earth and Environmental Science. He is also Director of Cyberinfrastructure for the Center for Mesoscale Modeling of Atmospheric Processes (CMMAP), a National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center with more than 50 partner institutions. Dr. Helly has a PhD in Computer Science from UCLA, an MS in Biostatistics also from UCLA and an MA and BA from Occidental College in Biology. His research interests include data analysis, modeling, remote sensing, and visualization. He is currently conducting research in iceberg dynamics in the Antarctic and hydrological modeling in California as well as developing and operating digital libraries for ocean exploration and deep-sea drilling.
